Gabby's Smile

by Joan McNerney

Gabby’s Smile

We’re in the park

under shady trees.

An 18 month old

child stops to visit.

She wears purple

blue and pink.

Exploring grass

as new as she is.

Doesn’t cry

when she falls.

Tightly hugs her

stuffed toy bear.

I bring my water

bottle close to me.

Bitsy golden curls

cover her head.

Beams when I say

“how beautiful’’.

Her eyes are two

blue cups of  joy.

Remembering

Gabby’s glow.

Still can power up

my mornings.
