Second Best

I’m not second best for no one

Not even for you

If you’re going to be too honest

Then fuck you, we’re through

It keeps happening again and again

And I just don’t know why

Who do you people think you are

With your ego and your sly

She said can I be honest with you?

I like some other guy

I’ve liked him from the very start

And I’ll tell you why

If he wanted me then I’d drop all this

And be with him instead of you

Well if you’re going to be too honest

Then fuck you, we’re through

Is it my drinking or maybe my smokes?

My lack of remembering or the fact I’m broke?

Sorry I wasn’t that special guy for you

But I deserve more than this

So fuck you, we’re through

United

Look at that crowd, doing the game proud

Woolly scarves, replica hats and woollen socks

United as one, together as a whole

All enjoying the game, no time for a brawl

In the middle of fall, just a ball will roll

Whilst you’re sitting tall

Odds are we’ll win, or maybe we’ll lose

United as one, together as a whole

The atmosphere is electric, even the odd eccentric

If you stay till the end, it’s been a good day

The game will play 45 minutes each way

On the way back home, discussions will be had

Passion and pride we didn’t play bad

It doesn’t matter who’s won

It’s about supporting your team

If we could all did this, wouldn’t it be a dream

All in together, the stadium was packed to the rim

We are united as one, all hoping for a win

All colours, all regions, no matter who you are

One thing in common, no matter how different or afar

Let’s keep this game great, at the stadium or in the bar

I’m Sorry, I Tried

I’ll probably see you on the bus sometime

On your way to college around about 9

You’re probably running late and in that angry state

Sitting with the new guy that’s by your side

I’m sorry I tried

It’s funny how some things are said

You told me you loved me and now we’re dead

I’d rather be alone because you didn’t use the phone

Sitting with the new guy that’s by your side

I’m sorry I tried

Let’s look back at our lives

Realise we were immature after the cries

I’ll hold my head up and won’t wear a disguise

And you’re sitting with the new guy that’s by your side

I’m sorry I tried

Love Lasts Forever

Ill love you forever and a day

Even when things aren’t okay

I’ve fallen for you

I’ll spend all my time here with you

Do you follow this love game?

If things go wrong it turns to blame

I will always remember your name

I hope you feel the same

Will you be mine forever

Love will keep us together

Even give you a shiver

All we need is need is each other

It doesn’t take much

But I know I’ll be back for more

You make my world go around

I hope you feel like you’re found

I’ll love you forever and a day

Even when things aren’t okay

I’ve fallen for you

I never want us to be through

Will you be mine forever

Love will keep us together

Even give you a shiver

All we need is need is each other

My oh my

We’re better together

Always and Forever

With You

If I could spend the whole of my life

I would spend it with you

When we’re not together

I always think about you

Will you wear my shirts again?

They’re big but they suit you

Or maybe just my red T-shirt

I bought it and thought of you

There are plenty of girls

They’re all around

When they speak

I turn around

I notice they’re not like you

I give them a chance

I see if it works

But all the time I’m just feeling hurt

Because I miss you

Do you miss me?

Tell the truth I don’t mind

I was just trying to be kind

I hope that I will see you someday

Depressio

The recession has hit

Deep down to the soul

Sometimes you’re happy

Then the mind; loses control

No matter how perfect

One’s life appears to be

Sometime you can’t help it

Or feel like you’re free

You can feel trapped

Like a man in the sea

Tablets won’t work

They just hide the plea

Postponing the judgement

No one knows it’s there

If you told your friends

They’d be confused; probably just stare

Am I the only one?

That feels this way

It comes and it goes

A many of my flows

Let’s all talk

Not pass judgment or whys

If you didn’t realise

Was I in a disguise?

Drew Armstrong is a 22 year old from Prudhoe, Northumberland, but now lives and studies in Sunderland. He started writing poetry for escapism as it isn’t always easy to say things out loud. What inspires his work is people and everyday life events, for example how you can feel about something; write about it and someone you’ve never met will read it and understand exactly how you felt about it at that particular time. His favourite writers are Bob Dylan, Noel Gallagher and Alex Turner and H.G. Wells.
