THE WILDERNESS IS A STATE OF MIND

Henry David Thoreau only went

to Walden Pond on weekends.

Yet, he got a full tasteof the wilderness.

My concept of the wilderness is

where the sidewalk ends.

I see the city as where people

live lonely lives behind closed curtains.

There's a fine line

between loneliness and solitude.

Loneliness is when you're

in need of companionship.

Solitude is welcoming

the chance to be alone,

where you can think without

interruptions. A penny for your thoughts is

probably overpriced.

But solitude is also trying

to convince yourself that you don't need

others at the moment.

Jean Paul Sartre is known

by his line, "Hell is other people."

But that's not true

when you're lost in the wilderness,

hoping others can find you.
